Change
To change is to be human. After conception, our bodies rapidly form in our mother's womb. After 9 months or so, we encounter what may be the biggest change of our life....birth. Delivery into this tailspin of reality. At birth, we begin to change and adapt to the world around us. We roll over, then we crawl, then we walk, then we talk, then school where our knowledge of history and applied sciences grows rapidly, then puberty, then relationships with others, then college and independence, the a career, then marriage, then parenthood, then being a grandparent, then retirement, then death. We change. To say we don't like change is to say we don't like ourselves. To resist change is to resist life....freedom...growth......adventure.
We accountants don't accept change very well. We need balance and stability, not change and uncertainty. We need to be comfortable. This isn't a reality for us anymore. The world is changing. Our clients' needs are not what they were 5 years ago, or even last year. Our firms aren't the same. We have to change, because we are changing. We are either growing....or we are dying.
